Chlorine background

Text Box: Chlorine has been used for many years, even decades to purify water. Water purified with chlorine often has a change in taste and smell. Chlorine levels require to be tested by a certified and trained person who is experienced. Otherwise if the chlorine concentration is too high, the water will not be safe to drink. Not only does chlorine require attention and maintenance but there is not an unlimited supply of chlorine available, what will happen once there is no more chlorine left to purify water? The process of purifying water using chlorine is simple. After the water is drawn from a water source, it is then put into carbon mixing tank in which carbon particles are added to remove any odours and tastes. Next, the water enters a flotation tank in which chemicals are added to ensure debris float to the surface and is removed. Chlorine is then added to the filtered water and as well as other chemicals such as fluorine and lime and stored in a water tank until it is used. Chlorine is still being used by water treatment plants even though it is highly reactive and can form dangerous compounds
